The events of the book alternate between Noland and Ix, two neighboring regions to Baum’s more famous Land of Oz. Baum himself beleived Queen Zixi was the best book he had written. The illustrator Frederick Richardson worked on editions of Aesop’s Fables, Hans Christian Andersen, and Andrew Lang’s Fairy Books, but is probably best remembered for illustrating works by Baum.
