Description:
Set against the lush backdrop of Goa, The Cry of the Kingfisher is an inspiring tale that explores hope, courage, and the resilience of the human spirit. The story revolves around Mayola, a sheltered and duty-bound woman whose life is shattered when her older, tempestuous sister Zarella is found mysteriously drowned. Despite her medical and psychiatric training, Mayola struggles to cope with the sudden emptiness left by her sister’s death. Driven by anger and despair, she embarks on a quest for meaning, which leads her to encounter Donna and Succorina.

Succorina, a village girl trapped by superstition and poverty, seeks a way out through her work as a housemaid in Kuwait. However, her life is marred by a distressing abortion and a failed marriage, and she begins to unravel mentally as she faces the cruel twists of her existence. Donna, a wealthy but emotionally neglected girl from England, turns to a rebellious punk lifestyle, sinking deeper into chaos as she searches for love and acceptance.

As Mayola’s path intersects with these two women, the three of them embark on a journey of self-realization, facing their fears, unraveling their dreams, and ultimately finding strength in each other. The Cry of the Kingfisher is a poignant exploration of life’s struggles and the transformative power of hope.
